Waltham Toll Bar Academy and Toll Bar Sixth Form College Autumn Concert


The evening began with a short introduction from Waltham Toll Bar Academy Principal, Nigel Whittle. He said: “Thank you to everyone who has attended this evening. The Music Department have done their very best to support the students in preparation for their performances this evening.” The concert was originally intended to be held in Summer, however COVID-19 restrictions meant that the event had to be postponed.

The show was launched with a performance from Waltham Toll Bar Singers with ‘Count on Me’ by Bruno Mars and followed by a Saxophone solo from Sixth Form student, Joshua Young. He performed ‘All Because of You’ and was accompanied by the piano.

Year 10 student, Poppy Indian sang her heart out with her performance of ‘Lost Without You’ by Freya Ridings. She was followed by Matilda Croft (Y11) who played ‘Serenade’ on the violin.

Then came another performance by Waltham Toll Bar Singers with ‘Riptide’, accompanied by gifted guitarist Joshua Corfield.

Sixth Former, Edith Sandiford gave a spirited performance with her rendition of ‘Greenfinch and Linnet Bird’ from the musical, Sweeney Todd.

Waltham Toll Bar Singers then performed 'Love Shine a Light' with the addition of eight ukulele players.

The first half of the show closed with an Andrew Lloyd Webber Medley from Sixth Form Singers. They joined together to perform ‘The Phantom of the Opera’ and ‘The Music of the Night’ from The Phantom of the Opera, ‘Don’t Cry for Me Argentina’ from Evita, ‘Superstar’ from Jesus Christ Superstar and ‘Memory’ from Cats.

The school cafeteria served refreshments during the interval, curtesy of Mellors Catering and the second half was kicked off with another rendition from Waltham Toll Bar Singers. They performed ‘Jar of Hearts’ by Christina Perri followed by a performance from talented Year 8 student, Kelvin Xue on the piano, who played ‘Summer’.

Sixth Form student, Casey Foyle then portrayed Wednesday Addams by singing and performing ‘Pulled’ from The Addams Family musical. Casey was followed by Matilda Croft (Y11) and Olivia Drury (Y11) who performed a violin duet of ‘Makin’ Whoopee’.

Joshua Corfield was next to the stage with his rendition of ‘Valerie’, in which he sang and played the guitar. Following Joshua was Waltham Toll Bar Singers with ‘A Thousand Years’ by Christina Perri. This performance was enhanced by a duet on the violin from Matilda Croft and Amelia Phelps.

Year 11 student, Phoebe Blackburn then sang ‘Beautiful’ by Christina Aguilera. Waltham Toll Bar Singers followed Phoebe’s performance with their final song of the night, ‘It’s a Hard Knock Life’ from the musical, Annie.

The show's finale was a performance from the school’s Rock Band with their version of ‘American Idiot’ by Green Day.

The VIPs were treated to refreshments and greetings from the Sixth Form students in the Conference centre where they were welcomed by Principals of Waltham Toll Bar Academy (Nigel Whittle) and Toll Bar Sixth Form College (Christina Hook) as well as the CEO of Lincolnshire Gateway Academies Trust, Martin Brown, Chair of the Board, Phillip Bond and Vice Chair, Jane Aukett.
