Town FC chair visits former school

Grimsby Town Football Club’s joint owner Jason Stockwood went on a trip down memory lane in a visit to his old school.

Joint owner of Grimsby Town, Jason Stockwood with Year 8s and Mr Whittle.

The tech entrepreneur and investor left Waltham Toll Bar in 1988 aged 18 to travel and went on to embark on a highly successful business career.

He spoke to A-level Business Studies students and Year 8s. Principal Mr Whittle took him on a short tour, which included his old tutor room, the canteen and playing fields.

He said: “It was great to be back at my old school for the first time since I left in 1988.

“I was delighted to meet with the sixth formers and Year 8s. Both groups asked terrific, thought-provoking questions.

“It still feels like a great school with wonderful facilities and excellent teaching.”

Mr Whittle thanked him for visiting.

“We were delighted to show Jason his old school and show him the progress that’s being made,” said Mr Whittle.

“He was particularly interested to read the posters around the school highlighting the termly improvements.

“Jason’s an inspirational figure, given his background and what he’s achieved in the world of business.

“It was fascinating to hear him talking to our sixth formers about business leadership, priorities and culture.

“We hope this is the start of a successful relationship with Jason and the football club which, like the Academy, is at the heart of this community.”

While the sixth formers quizzed him about business, Year 8s took the opportunity to ask about football. He has been joint owner of his home town club for almost two years.
