Orion House

House Colour: Fantail Orange
Named after the Constellation of Orion
Location: Northern Hemisphere

"The Sky's The Limit"

Perhaps second only to the Big Dipper, the constellation of Orion is one of the most recognisable patterns of stars in the northern sky. Orion, the hunter, stands by the river Eridanus and is accompanied by his faithful dogs. Orion's tragic life ended when he stepped on Scorpius, the scorpion. The gods felt sorry for him, so they put him and his dogs in the sky as constellations. They also put all of the animals he hunted up there near him. Scorpius, however, was placed on the opposite side of the sky so Orion would never be hurt by it again.

The new Orion logo shows an image of a hunter to represent the constellation.

House Council

In Orion, we think it is important to take into account the views of all our students. So we hold regular House Council meetings to discuss any issues affecting our day to day lives. Each tutor group has at least 1 representative who is there to put forward the particular concerns of the students. These are discussed at length and the most pressing make it forward to the full College Council meeting for further consideration. This process has resulted in an updated College uniform, more benches to sit on in the playground and separate upper and lower school toilet facilities along with the hard play area and basketball courts for use before College and at break and lunch.

Form Prefects

Each year, one student from each tutor group is chosen as Form Prefect. This role includes, supporting the house tutor in their day to day role and representing the academy at any afterschool academy events.

This accolade is awarded to students who have shown exemplary behaviour, attendance and punctuality during their time at Tollbar Academy and set an example to other students in their tutor group.

Interhouse Competitions

Orion students are very proud to be a part of Orion House and enjoy taking part in the inter-house competitions and charity events that we organise during the year.

We are always exceptionally well represented and those students who do take part really enjoy representing their House.

The competitions are chosen to appeal to different strengths. These could be musical, sporting or academic.

All of these achievements meant after a very close fought battle, right up to the last competition of the year, with Orion actively participating in all aspects of the inter-house tournament.

A fantastic effort by everybody well done!
