Tollbar Students Form A Large Part Of Successful Cheerleading Club

The Tollbar Academy students who are members of Fierce Elite. They are: (Top) Amelia Wright, Grace Trippitt, Frances Lanighan and Primrose Cunningham. (Bottom) Isobel Kellett, Hannah Wilson, Isla Hickson and Stephanie Hickson.

These Tollbar Academy students form a major part of Grimsby's first and most successful cheerleading club - Fierce Elite.

The athletes have been involved in the sport for between two to five years and range in age from 12 to 18. The team is made up of students from Tollbar Academy, King Edward VI and TAG.

They train for six hours per week at a dedicated training facility in central Grimsby - the largest and best facility of its kind in Lincolnshire. They work strength, endurance, flexibility, Arial skills and routine work in order to reach their goals at competition.

Over the years, the teams have won multiple regional titles and national titles, however, the European title was one that had evaded them until the 2018-2019 season.

The 2019 European Championship took place in Liverpool at the end of June. Fierce Elite Gold, our Senior level 2 Elite team, were up against tough competition, including Basingstoke Wolverines and The Rising Stars from Stockport, who took the second and third place positions respectively. In total, Gold were placed 1st out of 20 teams with a score of 94.8% - their highest score of the season.

On top of this, they were also awarded a gold bid to compete at the U.S finals in America. Unfortunately, due to cost, the team has had to decline the bid this year, but is looking forward to opportunities to compete internationally in the future.
