GCSE Art Student Wins National Winter Olympics Design Competition

Tollbar Academy Year 11 GCSE Art student James Roberts (16) with his winning design.

Tollbar Academy Year 11 GCSE Art student James Roberts (16) is one of 20 national winners of a competition to design a pair of trainers and create a slogan to support Team GB and Paralympics GB for the Tokyo Winter Olympics 2022.

James (16) took part in the Get Set ‘Share Your Pride’ competition along with students from 1,700 schools across the UK. Only 20 winners were chosen and each received a pair of Adidas trainers.

James is proud of his win and his trainer template, which depicts the Olympic torch and the gold rings, utilises Team GB colours and carries the slogan: Only The Best Will Do.

“I entered the competition as part of my coursework but did not expect to win,” said James.

Tollbar Academy Art Teacher Laura Dandy, said the whole Art Department is proud of James. “He did an incredible job showcasing graphic design and illustrating how you can use images that represent the UK in a more abstract way. We are very impressed,” she added.

James Roberts receives his prize of a pair of brand new Adidas trainers from Art Teacher Laura Dandy.
