Careers Programme 2019

October 2019

Dear Parent/Carer

To prepare students for a rapidly changing world, Tollbar Multi Academy Trust is committed to providing a high quality careers programme at all of our academies.

During your child's time at one of our academies, he/she will be provided with the following careers programme:

  • Personal careers guidance with a trained careers advisor
  • Access to careers and labour market information
  • Lessons in each subject area looking at careers and opportunities within that subject
  • Opportunities to meet with employers and employees
  • Opportunities to meet with further and higher education providers
  • Experience of a workplace

Tollbar Multi Academy Trust's careers programme is based around the individual needs of students and therefore activities will vary accordingly. An example of how the careers programme works in each year group is enclosed.

Start Careers Profile

Tollbar Multi Academy Trust has signed up to an innovative online resource called 'Start' to complement our existing careers provision.

Start will help students to connect with their future career potential, develop their employability and help them to explore future career choices.

Students will be given a unique username and password for their own account for Start during their Citizenship lessons, but it is accessible anytime on computers and compatible mobile and tablet devices.

Your child will personalise their profile on Start with details about their skills, qualities, interests and work preferences. This provides a starting point for students to explore information matched to their personal preferences and interests. As they update their profile, Start will personalise this information, helping them to navigate the thousands of jobs, courses, providers and opportunities available. Start will help students to understand where they are on their journey and what is important as they make their choices at GCSE, post-16 and post-18.

We encourage you to use Start with your child at home. Encourage them to rate jobs, qualifications, colleges or universities so that we can see their preferences in order to support them effectively.

Parents can also use Start to find out more about jobs, training and study opportunities for adults.

To register yourself on this site go to and select 'register' in order to create your own personalised careers profile.

Tollbar Multi Academy Trust is looking to provide as many opportunities as possible for students to learn about local jobs and local businesses, both large and small. We would like to invite any parents/carers who wish to speak about their business or their career to a small group of students to please contact their child's Head of House directly.

I would like to thank you for your support.

Yours faithfully

Mr D J Hampson, OBE
