Tollbar Academy Year 7 Tea Party. Teacher Justine Peck, of Bursar Primary Academy, catches up with former pupil Ava Payne (11).
Moving to secondary school can be a momentous occasion for 11-year-olds, so sharing their new experiences with their former teachers over a cup of tea is a reassuring time for all.
Tollbar Academy Year 7 students did just that when they put on the kettle for their former Primary School teachers, who visited the Academy to see how they are getting on.
Teachers Sam Heeley and Mark Jacklin, from Yarborough Academy, were delighted to see a group of their former pupils waiting eagerly to greet them.
Mr Jacklin said: “It is nice to see them all and have a chat and a drink. They are doing really well. We are really proud of them.”
Mrs Jo Lowe and Louise Sargent visited Tollbar from Enfield Academy in New Waltham. Mrs Sargent said: “It’s lovely. They were a really good class. Great to see they haven’t changed.”
Kate Melling, a Year 6 Teacher at St Joseph’s Catholic Primary Voluntary Academy, visited former pupils, Naomi Fairbanks and Sydney Krogh.
Sydney said: “I missed my old school in the first term. There was a lot of homework to do, but I like it now. I have made lots of friends from other schools.”
Mrs Melling added: “It is really nice to see them and see their confidence growing. It is good to be able to report back to our current Year 6 on how they are doing.”
Teacher Justine Peck, of Bursar Primary Academy, visited Ava Payne (11), who is now in Year 7 at Tollbar Academy.
Ava said: “It has been really good seeing Mrs Peck. I have shown her my English and Spanish work.”
Mrs Peck added: “I like to come to Tollbar and see how our former pupils are doing. We build a relationship with them and it's nice to catch up. Ava is doing really well and has settled in."
