Year 7 students at Tollbar Academy learned about civic duty when the Mayor of North East Lincolnshire, Cllr Ron Shepherd, visited their Citizenship assembly. The Mayor was accompanied by Paul Wisken, Civic and Mayoral Officer, who carried the mace.

Cllr Shepherd said: "It is paramount that we educate young people about the role of the Mayor in the Borough. The students asked me some really good and topical questions, about whether the role is democratically elected and about the history of the mace."

Linda Willoughby, Curriculum Leader for Citizenship, said: "The Mayor's visit was very interesting. It tied in well with the current topic of community, and the Mayor was very engaging and humorous and answered lots of questions from the students."
